art - Das Kunstmagazin is a monthly art magazine that was founded by Wolf Uecker and has been published by Gruner + Jahr since November 1979. The editor-in-chief was Axel Hecht from the start up to issue 2/2005 , his successor has been Tim Sommer since then .

art is published by the Hamburg publishing house Gruner + Jahr . The sold circulation is 28,392 copies, a decrease of 61.4 percent since 1998.

In each issue, well-known and unknown artists are presented with their works. The focus is on contemporary art . The magazine deals with all directions of art ( painting and sculpture , architecture , photography , design , video art, etc.) art also reports on exhibitions, projects and dates. The category picture survey of the author couple Rose-Marie and Rainer Hagen regularly analyzed and described a historical picture and was replaced by the category "Milestones" with changing authors.

Since the beginning of 2018, the art website has no longer offered extensive content, but only a kind of order function for the print edition.

Artis

The monthly art magazine Artis - magazine for new art ( ISSN  0004-3842 ), which was published from 1950 to 2001 by the Swiss publishers Hallwag , Bern and Stuttgart-Ostfildern, was completely taken over by the Hamburg art magazine art in 2001 .

Curator award

On April 14, 2016, Susanne Pfeffer received the first-time curator award from the art magazine ART. Her exhibition Inhuman (2015) was honored. "The show astutely examines how people change through inhuman technology," said the jury in the reasoning.
