Alfred Nemeczek

Alfred Nemeczek (born September 27, 1933 in Kassel ; † April 10, 2016 in Hamburg ) was a German author, art historian and art journalist.

Life

Nemeczek studied art history and German in Marburg . He attended the first documenta in 1955. From 1957 to 1967 he was a volunteer, then a feature editor for the Hessische Nachrichten (from 1959 Hessische Allgemeine ) in Kassel. He was considered a friend and confidante of documenta founder Arnold Bode . In 1964 he became press spokesman and catalog editor for documenta III . In 1967 he married the artist Mechthild Frisch , who worked under the name Nemeczek until 1986 .

Nemeczek moved to Hamburg in 1967, where he worked as culture editor for the magazine Der Spiegel until 1973 and in the same position at Stern from 1973 to 1979 . From 1979 to 1998 he was deputy editor-in-chief and columnist of the art magazine art . Since 1991 Nemeczek was a member of the board of trustees of the Arnold Bode Foundation .

Nemeczek lived as a freelance journalist in Hamburg and gave seminars on art criticism in the Hamburg media office . He died unexpectedly in Hamburg in April 2016 at the age of 82.
