Archy Samuel Marshall (born August 24, 1994 ), better known by his stage name King Krule , is a British singer , composer and musician .

biography

Marshall attended Forest Hill School and then studied at BRIT School for three years, between 2008 and 2011 .

Under the name Zoo Kid he released his debut single Out Getting Ribs on House Anxiety Records in April 2010 , which he recorded and mixed in his own bedroom with two friends. From July 2011, Marshall appeared under his new name King Krule , which is inspired by the movie King Creole . On November 8, 2011 he released an EP of the same name as King Krule on True Panther Sounds. His debut album 6 Feet Beneath the Moon followed on August 24, 2013.

In December 2012, the BBC announced that he had been nominated for the Sound of 2013 poll.

His music has been compared to Morrissey and Edwyn Collins . Stylistically it was described as a dark wave and is inspired by opposing influences such as Gene Vincent , Fela Kuti and the Penguin Cafe Orchestra . Marshall also makes music under the names of DJ JD Sports and Edgar The Beatmaker , with which he deviates significantly from the style as King Krule .
