Edwyn Collins
Edwyn Stephen Collins (born August 23, 1959 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish musician.
biography
In 1976 he founded Nu-Sonics, which were renamed Orange Juice in 1979 . In 1985, the British post-punk band split soon after their critically acclaimed debut album You Can't Hide Your Love Forever , prompting Collins to embark on a solo career.
In the early 1980s, Collins and his band Orange Juice were looking for the perfect pop song. He succeeded in realizing this ideal in many cases, for example with Rip it Up and Start Again , the title of which Simon Reynolds borrowed for his famous post-punk book.
In the summer of 1995, Collins landed his biggest hit with A Girl Like You , which reached number 4 in Great Britain and number 3 in Germany. In 2003 this song was also part of the soundtrack for the film Charlie's Angels - Full Power .
In a radio interview on February 18, 2005, Collins complained of malaise, but attributed his nausea and dizziness to food poisoning. Two days later he was taken to the Royal Free Hospital in London after suffering a stroke . On February 25th of that year he underwent an operation followed by rehabilitation after a second stroke.
In 2010 he released Losing Sleep, the first album that was completely recorded after his stroke and the subsequent operation. Collins recorded the 2007 album Home Again before his stroke, but only had it mixed completely afterwards. On Losing Sleep , Collins is accompanied by numerous guest musicians, including Johnny Marr ( The Smiths ) and Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy from Franz Ferdinand . The title song Losing Sleep was not only released from the album as the first single , it was also distributed as free mp3 via NME .
Collins lives with longtime partner Grace Maxwell, who is also his manager. The couple have one son and live in Helmsdale , where they run the Clashnarrow Studio, where he recorded his 2019 album Badbea.

Trivia
There is a persistent discourse on the Internet about whether the song A Girl Like You , whose sound could be confused with a song by Iggy Pop , is a cover of a song by Iggy Pop, or whether Iggy Pop is A Girl Like You by Edwyn Collins would have covered. Another variation is that Collins wrote the song as a tribute to Iggy Pop.
