Life

Nick McCarthy grew up in Vagen, Bavaria . The artist Anna McCarthy is his younger sister. As a teenager he stole a car with friends and since then has been nicknamed "McCarThief" ( English car thief = car thief ). He graduated from high school in Bad Aibling and studied double bass at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Paulo Cardoso .

Before his breakthrough, McCarthy played with Franz Ferdinand in the bands Razzmatazz, Embryo , Kamerakino and the Djaosch Macholi Orchestra.

In 2001 he moved to Glasgow where he met singer Alex Kapranos at a party . McCarthy arranged to meet Kapranos to play the drums in his band, which he did not master sufficiently. Therefore he was used as a guitarist. With the bassist Robert Hardy the band was then complete.

In July 2016, Nick McCarthy announced his departure from the band Franz Ferdinand.

Together with Seb-I Kellig (dub producer for LaBrassBanda, among others ) and the Berlin artist Hank Schmidt in the Beek, he forms the band “Das Lunsentrio”, which in 2017 released their album Stand Up .
