Madboy is a German feature film by Henna Peschel that was released in German cinemas on July 2, 2009. The film had 2008 at the Hamburg Film Festival 's premiere .

action

After the young farmer and punk rocker Schäffke and his hardcore band Madboy failed in his home country, the northern German province, he set off for Hamburg with his guitar in his luggage, with the hope of a new life and the desire to become a star there. The quick-tempered ex-farmer finds shelter with his old friend Jakobus. The unsuccessful painter paints expressively in acrylic on the edge of the Hamburg free port. He finances his waiting for the artistic breakthrough with rip-offs. His lodger Nina, a business administration student from Dortmund, lives in the storage room of his studio and occasionally provides breakfast. It doesn't take long for Schäffke to fall in love with the young and beautiful, but for a long time aloof woman. But at least as bad as the financial situation of the three friends is the mood in the run-down working-class district of Wilhelmsburg. Two long-established family clans attack each other over a freshly cracked money transporter, set a fire and tinker with a large bomb with a time fuse. James, who is well-known in the district, does not find himself completely innocent between the fronts of the angry clans. His buddy Schäffke would like to get away from the hustle and bustle and go home again. But failing again is no solution either. And so, instead of whimpering, he would rather write an honest song about the hard life in Hamburg's dark backyard.

production

  • Henna Peschel shot the film without a budget and released the film on its own.
  • The film was filmed with a Panasonic DVX100 , a MiniDV camera which, according to Peschel, was also used by many Dogma directors .
  • No headlights were used when shooting low-light movies .
  • The sound equipment was when no sound engineer was available, served by the director or the actors.
  • In Catering was largely unnecessary.
  • In addition to professional actors such as Nina Schwabe and Hector Kirschtal, the other roles in the film are mainly played by amateur actors .
  • During the filming was often improvised and not according to script worked.

Reviews

"A declaration of love to an underrated district - this film is becoming a cult!"

- NDR culture journal

"" Madboy "is weird because of his pun. There are word creations that seem as if Heinz Strunk had helped write the script. There are also grandiose scenic ideas, a hand-to-hand fight with cucumbers and pumpkins, for example, or a ballet from Schäffke to the independent low-fi music of his annoyed host. And there are these weird characters, drawn into the grotesque and at the same time grounded in a convincing way. "

- taz

“They still exist, these small, discarded films that testify to the longing for the big cinema and the passion of their makers. Henrik "Henna" Peschel, who grew up in Wilhelmsburg and with his "Rollo Aller!" Trilogy became a cult figure among Hamburg cineastes, digitally staged "Madboy" with friends and acquaintances in the summer of 2005 without a significant budget. "

- film service

“With a lot of enthusiasm and dry humor, the amateur and young actors embody life artists on the social sideline, tough thugs and even tougher gas station owners. The camera shakes, the music rocks and the fish heads prove that you don't need a lot of money or rehearsals for a crazy story. "
