Loch Einich is a freshwater lake in the Scottish Highlands . It is located in a completely uninhabited high valley in the Cairngorm Mountains about 14 km south of Aviemore . Loch Einich is around 1.9 km long and up to 500 m wide. The lake is nestled at a height of 400 m between the Sgor Gaoith and Einich Cairn mountains, each over 1000 m high . The greatest depth of the lake is around 40 m.
Loch Einich receives its water from several streams from the surrounding mountains and drains at its northern end into the Am Beanald , which ultimately flows into the River Spey via the River Druie . The lake is not accessed by any road - it can only be reached via an unpaved path through the Gleann Einich . The tour from the Spey Valley to Loch Einich is an interesting route for mountain bikers. The lake is also a fishing area where char and lake trout can be caught.
