Adam M. Green (born May 28, 1981 in Mount Kisco , New York ) is an American singer , songwriter , poet and filmmaker . He is a member of the band The Moldy Peaches and also started his solo career in 2002.

Life

Adam Green is a great-grandson of Felice Bauer , the fiancé of Franz Kafka . He comes from a family of doctors, his father was at times a neurologist at Columbia University . Until entering high school, Green was homeschooled.

Green initially only reached a small fan base. He made a breakthrough in Europe in the mid-2000s. Among his best-known songs are the single releases Jessica, Friends of Mine, Dance with me and Emily. In 2005 his third solo album Gemstones was released, which hit the charts in Germany and gave Green appearances on Harald Schmidt and TV totally . For Gemstones , Green received a gold record for selling 100,000 albums, and in 2005 he was nominated internationally for the Echo in the Newcomer of the Year category. In the USA, Adam Green is not that popular, in contrast to Germany and other European countries.

In 2005, Green's collection of poems was published by the German Suhrkamp Verlag . The book contains the original English texts as well as a German translation by the author and musician Thomas Meinecke . His album Jacket Full Of Danger was released in 2006, and Sixes and Sevens in 2008 . In 2010 Minor Love was released, which is musically based more on the early albums, but has more melancholy traits overall.

Adam Green's music, along with Kimya Dawson's, is considered to be a major influence on anti-folk music . His music is believed to have been influenced by Bob Dylan , Lou Reed , Scott Walker and Leonard Cohen.

In early 2008 the song Anyone Else But You was used by Green's band Moldy Peaches for the independent film Juno and made the band known. Adam Green and Kimya Dawson appeared together at the film premiere and on the Whoopie Goldberg TV show.

Green composed a soundtrack for the play Timbuktu based on the novel of the same name by Paul Auster .

In 2013 he released the album Adam Green & Binki Shapiro with the US singer and multi-instrumentalist Binki Shapiro. In 2016 Green's solo album Aladdin was released. At the same time, the film Adam Green's Aladdin was made. Green's ninth album Engine of Paradise was released in 2019.

Green married the photographer and musician Loribeth Capella in 2008. The marriage ended in divorce after less than a year. As of 2016, he is married for the second time. He is the father of one child.

Movie

In April 2011, Adam Green released his first film, The Wrong Ferarri . The film was written, produced and directed by Green. The film was shot entirely with an iPhone . Guest appearances include Devendra Banhart and Macaulay Culkin . In 2014, Adam Green raised around $ 50,000 with a crowdfunding campaign to make his next feature film, Aladdin (2016). The actors were again Banhart and Culkin as well as Har Mar Superstar and Rodrigo Amarante, among others. Green wrote, produced and directed the film.
