Kimya Dawson (born November 17, 1972 ) is an American singer. She is considered a co-founder of the anti-folk movement.

biography

Together with Adam Green she founded the group Moldy Peaches in New York . Although this has not been dissolved, it has not been active for years. After solo projects, she is currently (2010) a member of The Bundles . Kimya Dawson belongs to the circle of New York anti-folk artists and often works with other artist friends at concerts and recordings.

She made her solo debut with I'm Sorry That Sometimes I'm Mean , which gives very intimate insights into the inner workings of the New York musician. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar and sung in a soft voice , the songs often deal with serious and dark subjects. She is committed to children who also play a major role in the lyrics of her songs.

Dawson is responsible for the soundtrack for the film Juno .

Kimya is married to Angelo Spencer, their daughter Panda Delilah was born on July 28, 2006 .
