Secretly Canadian

Secretly Canadian is an American independent label . The record company based in Bloomington , Indiana has promoted some formative bands on the US independent scene in recent years and, together with Saddle Creek, is considered the most important young label on the scene.

The artists produced include Jason Molina with his projects Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. , as well as Damien Jurado , Bodies of Water , June Panic , Swearing At Motorists or Music go Music .

In 2005 two artists achieved their international breakthrough: Antony and the Johnsons , with the albums Anthony and the Johnsons and above all with the award-winning I am a Bird now . Anthony and the Johnsons have had some success in Europe for a while, but not nearly as much as they did in 2005. The second musician is Jens Lekman , who received numerous good reviews both with his current album Oh, you're so silent, Jens and with the predecessor When I said I wanted to be your Dog . In January 2017, the label initiated a playlist project called Our First 100 Days , which published 100 tracks for 100 days from Donald Trump's inauguration as a protest against the policies of the new US president.

Label owner Chris Swanson is also a partner in the Bloomington-based indie labels Jagjaguwar and Dead Oceans .
