Scout Niblett
Scout Niblett (born September 29, 1973 in Staffordshire , England , real name Emma Louise Niblett ) is an English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
Life
Niblett grew up in Rugeley . She learned the recorder and piano. After she saw the movie Who disturbs the nightingale , she named herself Scout after the protagonist in it . This is how her stage name came about.
At the age of 19 she moved to Nottingham , where she attended an art school. While studying, Niblett began performing in clubs in Nottingham. Initially with both music and as a stand-up comedian, although she never thought of herself as weird.
After applying to British labels for a long time without success, the American label Secretly Canadian offered her her first contract. In 2003 she moved to the USA because, as she says, the conditions there, especially for underground musicians, are much better than in her old home. After moving several places within the USA, she has been living in Portland , Oregon since 2005 .
Niblett's musical style is more minimalistic. Many of her songs consist entirely of her singing, accompanied only by either guitar or drums.
She hired Nirvana and Pixies producer Steve Albini to record her albums I Am , Kidnapped by Neptune , This Fool Can Die Now and The Calcination of Scout Niblett . For the albums Kidnapped by Neptune and It's Up to Emma , she got other musicians to support her. It's Up to Emma (2013) is also the first album that Niblett produced and mixed entirely on his own.
