from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rugeley is a historic market town in the region Staffordshire , England .

Rugeley is located on the northern edge of Cannock Chase, relatively centrally between the towns of Stafford , Cannock , Lichfield and Uttoxeter . According to a census, the city had 22,742 inhabitants in 2001 (including the Wards Brereton and Etchinghill ).

The city lies on the railway Trent Valley Line of the West Coast Main Line , and also the historical results Trent and Mersey Canal through the city.

The town was a center of coal mining until 1991 when the Lea Hall mine closed. The Rugeley A power plant, which is now closed, received its fuel directly from the neighboring coal mine via conveyor belt systems. This was the first system of its kind in Great Britain.

The Rugeley B coal-fired power station dominates the skyline today. Despite the retrofitting of a flue gas desulphurization system in 2009, which enabled Rugeley B to comply with environmental regulations, the system was finally decommissioned in 2016.
