Cannock Chase is a district in the county of Staffordshire in England . The administrative seat is the city of Cannock . Other important places are Hednesford and Rugeley .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the urban districts Cannock and Rugeley and the village of Brindley Heath in the rural district of Lichfield.

War cemetery

This is also where the German war cemetery Cannock Chase is located , where the German war dead who were buried scattered across Great Britain and Northern Ireland were laid together. Most of them died in captivity or internment camps . Added to this are the crews of crashed fighter planes , dead people that were washed up on the coast and crews of airships from the First World War . 2143 dead from the First World War and 2797 from the Second World War were buried here . 263 German war dead from the First World War and 1044 from the Second World War, who had already been buried in British military cemeteries, were excluded from the reburial.
