Newcastle-under-Lyme is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Staffordshire in England . The administrative center is the city of the same name, Newcastle-under-Lyme , where more than half of the population lives. Other significant locations are Audley , Bradwell , Clayton , Cross Heath , Keele , Kidsgrove , Madeley , Porthill , Silverdale and Westlands .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was the result of the merger of the Municipal Borough Newcastle-under-Lyme, the Urban District Kidsgrove and the Rural District Newcastle-under-Lyme.
