Stafford is an administrative district with borough status in the county of Staffordshire in England . The administrative center is the city of the same name, Stafford , in which around half of the district's population lives. Other significant places are Barlaston , Eccleshall , Gnosall and Stone .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the Municipal Borough of Stafford, the Urban District Stone and the Rural Districts Stafford and Stone.
