The International Alliance of Research Universities ( IARU ; German International Association of Research Universities ) is an association of eleven universities founded in January 2006 that are world leaders in the field of research.

The members of the alliance share common values ​​and pursue a global vision. You are particularly committed to training future leaders.

The first chairman is Professor Ian Chubb, Vice Chancellor of the Australian National University.

founding

The IARU was founded by university presidents at a meeting held January 13-14, 2006 at the National University of Singapore . On January 14, 2006, the ten founding members of the IARU signed an agreement in which they stipulated that they would jointly pursue various activities, including summer internships, research collaborations and the determination of joint positions on important public issues.

In January 2016, the association extended the partnership and at the same time welcomed the University of Cape Town ( University of Cape Town ) as a new, eleventh member. Since the alliance is small, the members maintain close relationships with one another.
