Immanu El ( Hebrew עִמָּנוּ אֵל for "God [be] with us") is a Swedish post-rock band from Gothenburg , which was founded in 2004.

history

The band was founded in summer 2004 by 16-year-old Claes Strängberg (vocals, electric guitar). A short time later, his twin brother Per (electric guitar), as well as his friends David Lillberg (electric guitar), Michael Persson (drums) and Emil Karlsson (electric bass) joined them. Jonatan Hammar was also active as a cellist in the band. The band held their first rehearsals in a small hut in Jönköping . After a demo, the first EP was released in 2005 with Killerwhale . This was followed by the first appearances in which the group performed together with Sigur Rós and ef , among others . She then got a record deal with And the Sound Records , which in August 2007 released the debut album They'll Come, They Come . Since the release of the debut album, the band played over 300 concerts in 30 different countries. In addition, the second album Moen was released in 2009 . In October 2011 the third album In Passage was released . Then Jonatan Josefsson was heard as the new drummer. After that, the band performed at the South by Southwest in Austin , the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg , the Filter Magazine's Culture Collide Festival in Los Angeles , the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City , the Canadian Music Week in Toronto and the Strawberry Festival in Beijing and Shanghai on. Robin Ausberg joined the band as the new bass player at the end of 2013. The albums were distributed via Cargo Records , among others .

style

According to Ruben Dario of progarchives.com , unlike most other post-rock bands, the band focuses on the vocals and made comparisons with bands like Logh , ef and September Malevolence . The singing is comparable to that of Jón Þór Birgisson (Sigur Rós), but with the difference that the singing of Immanu El is in English. In addition to ef and Sigur Rós, Dario also used Gregor Samsa as a comparison band . According to laut.de , the band plays "atmospheric pop music that is influenced by the flat soundscapes of post-rock". It has also been described as a mix of Sigur Rós, Explosions in the Sky and Logh. Since Claes Strängberg and Emil Karlsson are also active in ef, you can hear overlaps with this band.
