ef is a post rock band from Gothenburg , Sweden that was founded in 2003. Originally started as a hardcore project, the band later developed into a post-rock project with the addition of Niklas Åström. Tomas Torsson and Daniel Öhman describe the bands Mogwai and Sigur Rós as the most important influences for this development . The band name ef is composed of the first letters of the name of their former hardcore band. Ef's music is mostly exclusively instrumental, with the guitars always in the foreground. However, the music is sometimes supplemented with singing, or with exotic instruments such as a melodica or an electric cello .
