Who Knew is a six-piece indie rock / new wave band from Reykjavík , founded in 2005 by singer Àrmann and guitarist Baldur.
Band history
founding
The band started in 2005 in a garage in Reykjavík. The former duo went through a few changes in the first few years until the band finally had its current line-up consisting of Àrmann (vocals), Baldur (guitar & vocals), Snorri (lead guitar), Jökull (bass), Jón Valur and the newest Access Hilmir (synthesizer) found its perfection.
Publications
After four years of songwriting and several recording sessions, Who Knew released their debut album Bits and pieces of a major spectacle on DevilDuck / 101berlin in spring 2010 . Recorded in the studio of Sigur Rós Sundlaugin (swimming pool) and in her own studio "Skjön" (which translates as studio "crooked and crooked" and owes its name to the lack of manual skills of the six guys) the album can be heard that especially the handcrafted construction and location were important. Surrounded by old-fashioned wallpaper and overcrowded ashtrays, the band opted for multiple layers of screeching guitars and synthesizer melodies overlapped by polyphonic falsetto vocals from all band members. The resulting rich sound of their music evokes associations with Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound", whereby the singing resembles a David Byrne suffering from panic attacks and her performance reminds one or the other of the earlier The Libertines .
