The Crookes were a British indie pop band.

history

The band was formed in 2008 in Sheffield by guitarist Daniel Hopewell , guitarist Alex Saunders , singer and bassist George Waite and drummer Russell Bates . The band is named after the Crookes district of Sheffield. In 2011 Alex Saunders left the band and was replaced by guitarist Tom Dakin .

The radio DJ Steve Lamacq allowed a radio concert in 2009 The Crookes BBC Radio 1 , thus contributing to their becoming known. In the same year the British daily newspaper The Guardian nominated The Crookes for the new band of the day and located them in the musical sphere of influence of The Smiths , The Housemartins , Belle and Sebastian as well as the C86 bands and the musicians on the Scottish Postcard label .

After the EP Dreams of Another Day in 2010, The Crookes released their debut album Chasing After Ghosts in 2011 , followed by the album Hold Fast a year later . The album Soapbox followed in 2014 . Her last album Lucky Ones was released in 2016.

On July 12, 2017, The Crookes announced their split on Facebook . Following the announcement, they gave final concerts in Amsterdam , Berlin and Sheffield .
