C86
C86 (from C assette 86 ) is a 1986 out matched, influential music sampler of the British magazine " New Musical Express ". He defined a new style of music, twee pop . Bands that were signed to independent record labels were released on C86. C86 was the follow-up compilation to C81 , which was released for the fifth anniversary of the independent distributor Rough Trade .
In contrast to the stylistically rather versatile C81 , the C86 limited itself primarily to guitar-heavy pop music (" indie pop "), but was still heard on the sampler itself in a more raw variety than later with typical representatives of so-called twee pop was.
"C86" was used as a genre term itself in the late 1980s, where the term C86 band or C86 sound was often sufficient as a stylistic classification.
In addition to the bands represented on the compilation, the releases by the record companies Postcard Records and Sarah Records were particularly influential.
