The Soup Dragons

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Soup Dragons was a British indie rock - band in 1990 with the single I'm Free had their biggest hit.

biography

The original line-up of the band, which formed in Bellshill , Scotland , in 1985 , included initiator Sean Dickson (vocals, guitar), Jim McCullough (guitar), Sushil K. Dade (electric bass) and Ross Sinclair (drums). The debut single Hang-Ten! was published in 1986 and is stylistically a mixture of punk and pop . With Can't Take No More and Soft as Your Face the group had their first small hits in the English charts in 1987 . The accompanying album This Is Our Art also briefly hit the UK charts in May 1988. In 1989, Sinclair left The Soup Dragons and was replaced by Paul Quinn.

Great success was achieved for the first time with the 1990 long player Lovegod , which was able to place itself in the UK charts exactly two years after the debut album , where it lasted 15 weeks and climbed to number 7. With the cover version of the Rolling Stones song I'm Free , the success continued in the summer of the year. The song, which can only be found on a revised version of the Lovegod album , is a feature with Junior Reid and climbed to number 5 on the UK singles chart. With Mother Universe , another extraction made it into the English charts.

With the third studio album Hotwired and the released single Divine Thing , the band's success declined noticeably. In the UK charts it was only enough for a short stay in the lower places. In December 1992, Pleasure made it into the US charts, albeit only to lower positions. McCullough, Dade and Quinn left the band in 1993. It was not until 1995 that the only remaining member, Sean Dickson, announced the end of the Soup Dragons.
