Huysuz Virjin

Huysuz Virjin was the stage name of the Turkish travesty artist Seyfettin Dursunoğlu (born October 1, 1932 in Trabzon ; † July 17, 2020 in Istanbul ). He was considered a nationally known show star and comedian . "Huysuz virjin" means grim virgin in Turkish .

He was born in Trabzon in 1932 and spent his youth in Istanbul. After visiting Haydarpaşa Lisesi (where he met the artist Zeki Müren ), he began his professional life as a civil servant in the social security system after a broken degree in English. At the same time he appeared as a comedian in Beylerbeyi's pubs and from the 1970s onwards he did this explicitly as a travesty artist in well-known venues and gazinos ( Kulüb 12 , Maksim ). Because he had great success with it, he quit his job. At the end of the 1970s he was allowed to appear on the then only state television broadcaster TRT, he gained greater fame in the 1990s on private channels, first at Atv, then Show TV and Kanal D , where he each entertained his own popular shows and received well-known artists.

He played the role of the grim, bad-tempered diva who eschewed taboos in her language and interactions. The performance was mostly completely improvised and the audience involved. In the 1990s in particular, the language was very coarse and was sometimes accompanied non-stop by censorship noises when sexual or fecal terms were used. This is one of the reasons why the broadcasting television channel Kanal D was temporarily taken completely out of broadcasting four times by the Turkish supervisory authority RTÜK . As a result, code words were established for certain terms. Well-known female guests were made aware of their grown vizigot ( vizigot was the code word for butt) or they were asked about the condition of their ostrogot (code word for vagina), creating tension between the travesty artist, the audience (who spoke the code language) and the part unsuspecting guests and penalties could be avoided by the supervisory authority.

With political Islamization and a more conservative supervisory authority, television appearances decreased rapidly from 2001 onwards. RTÜK warned the broadcasters not to let him appear in women's clothes, as this offends good taste and is a bad example for the children. From then on he moderated the few programs ( Benimle Dans Eder misin , Benzemez Kimse Sana ) without travesty. He was never married and lived in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul .

At the beginning of July 2020 he was admitted to an Istanbul hospital with pneumonia . There he died two weeks later of COPD, childless at the age of 87 .
