Kanal D is a Turkish private television broadcaster owned by the Demirören Medya Grubu , based in Istanbul .

Kanal D was founded on December 19, 1993 by Ayhan Şahenk. October 17, 1994 the transmitter was acquired by Aydın Doğan . With a market share of 14 percent, it is the most watched TV channel in Turkey.

Kanal D presents a full program from news programs to entertainment programs of all kinds. The best-known programs are the series Yaprak Dökümü (2006–2010) and Kavak Yelleri (2007–2011), based on novels by the Turkish writer Reşat Nuri Güntekin , the drama series Aşk-ı Memnu (2008–2011, adaptation of the novel of the same name by Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil from 1900), the series Küçük Kadınlar (2008–2011, plot inspired by the American novel Little Women ) and Ihlamurlar Altında (2005–2008). One of the most successful television series was Yabanci damat ("Foreign Bridegroom", 2004-2007), which was dedicated to Greek-Turkish relations and also achieved top values in Greece with a market share of over 55% in some cases.
The Arka Sokaklar series has become a cult series and always achieves very good market values. Other popular formats include the Sketch telecast Çok Güzel Hareketler Bunlar (2008-2011) and the Beyaz Show . With the most popular TV series in Turkey Öyle bir geçer zaman ki (“As time flies”) with the German actress Wilma Elles , Kanal D reached up to 25 million viewers in 2012. In September 2016, Kandal D ended its collaboration with the television station ZDF .

In 2007, the mother Doğan Yayın Holding founded the TV channel of the same name, Kanal D, with the Swiss media company Ringier in Romania .
