Manuel Possible (born January 26, 1979 in Weilburg ) is a German journalist , author and representative of gonzo journalism . He was best known for the Wild Germany documentaries that were broadcast on ZDFneo and Netflix .

Life

Manuel Possible completed a traineeship in the music industry in Cologne and then studied media and cultural studies at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . At the same time, he worked as a freelance journalist and wrote about music and pop culture such as the Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) phenomenon . He conducted several hundred interviews with a wide variety of people and artists (e.g. Lou Reed , Metallica , Oasis , Henry Rollins ) and established himself as an author and reporter for the radio station 1LIVE . In addition to radio (including moderator at Radio Eins ), he also works for television and writes books.

After completing his studies, he worked in Cologne , Madrid and New York . Today he lives in Berlin . One of the three managing partners of the Bremen and Berlin-based production company Sendefähig GmbH is possible.

Documentation

In the documentary series Wild Germany , Manuel Possible focuses on marginalized groups and extremes. For example, he is researching why some HIV-negative gay men intentionally want to be infected with the AIDS virus, how the drug crystal meth can be obtained in Upper Franconia or how people in Germany become victims of satanic cults. “Possible broadcast is unique - because of its implementation” (Süddeutsche Zeitung of February 9, 2013). The format was implemented by the production company of the German-language edition of Vice magazine . Some Wild Germany reports have been licensed and broadcast by Netflix .

Starting in autumn 2013, Possible performed the program Heimwärts with… , in which he accompanies celebrities like Heinz Strunk , Dolly Buster , Wolfgang Niedecken or Jürgen Drews to the place of their childhood. The program was also broadcast on ZDFneo , produced by the bildundtonfabrik .

In October 2014, ZDFneo showed the four reports in the series Germany from the outside for the first time . Manuel Possible travels to countries that have a historical connection to Germany for the format. In Namibia , Brazil , Romania and Latvia he meets people with German roots or those who feel closely connected to Germany. From them he learns how Germany and its citizens are perceived from afar.

Manuel Possible has been part of the Y collective , funk (media offer) since 2016 . From spring 2018 he can be seen with Rabiat in the ARD main program Das Erste . He is the writer and producer of the series. As a reporter, he is among others in the two Rabiat -Reportagen network Kink ( FetLife ) and sub pedophiles front of the camera.

On February 27, 2015 Germany appeared everywhere - A search on five continents at Rowohlt Berlin. For his first book, he visited former German colonies and countries that are closely intertwined with German history within a year. His travels took him to Swakopmund , Pomerode , Liberec , the island state of Samoa , Qingdao , Transylvania and New York City . Lüderitz , in the southwest of Namibia, serves as a hook for his first trip, because residents are still supposed to celebrate Adolf Hitler's birthday there. "Smart, critical, but also full of humor - a travel report of a special kind." (HR Fernsehen from May 7, 2015). Manuel Possible went on an extensive reading tour with the book in 2015.

On March 27, 2018, Alles auf Anfang was published - On the trail of lived dreams at Rowohlt Berlin. The second book by Manuel Possible is all about visions and utopias . For the eleven chapters, Possible lived with groups and people as diverse as Tamera in Portugal , Nomadelfia in Italy or the polyamory cherry blossom community in Switzerland . He researched and talked about eternal life in California . a. with Raymond Kurzweil or Aubrey de Gray .
