Timid Tiger is a five-piece band from Cologne that was founded in the summer of 2002.
history
The songwriters Keshav Purushotham and Christian Voss met for the first time in the summer of 2002. They became friends and composed several songs together on the acoustic guitar. After three months they decide to record the compositions with Purushotham's former band Radio Voices . The new band Timid Tiger consisted of Purushotham and Voss, keyboardist Evgeni Kouris, bassist Thilo Schmelzer and Felix Günther on drums. At their first concert on May 23, 2003 in the Deutz youth club in Cologne, they met the comic artist and musician Klaus Cornfield . He designed the tiger for the band logo.
In 2004, the Cologne independent label Highcat Records released the EP Timid Tiger & the Electric Treasure Box . The song Miss Murray was picked up by the radio stations and included on the CD accompanying the May issue of Spex . The Hamburg independent label L'age d'or signed Timid Tiger in early 2005. Miss Murray was re-released as a single. In May 2005, Timid Tiger & a Pile of Pipers released the band's first album. From March 23, 2006, the debut album was also available in Japan.
The following year Thilo Schmelzer and Felix Günther left the band and were replaced in 2008 by Christopher Martin on bass and Steffen Wilmking on drums. With this line-up, they have now produced their music themselves in their own recording studio in Cologne ( Electric Island ).
The EP The PMA was released on March 16, 2009 . EP that included a cover version of Britney Spears ' Womanizer .
The label Columbia Berlin signed the band in autumn 2009 and released the album Electric Island in 2010 .
In 2012 Timid Tiger released the album The Streets Are Black on her own label Papercup Records .
