Steffen "Steddy" Wilmking

Steffen "Steddy" Wilmking (born April 27, 1976 ) is a German music producer , drummer , multi-instrumentalist , mixing and mastering engineer and label owner. He started his career as a founding member of the band Thumb and is the drummer for the bands H-Blockx , Timid Tiger and And The Hurley Sea. In 2011 he produced the platinum-winning number one album XOXO by Casper for Four Music . Steddy runs the music label Papercup Records together with Keshav Purushotham .

Wilmking received drum lessons at the age of five. His father Volker Wilmking was himself a musician and music dealer. The first bands and recording experiments with his 4-track cassette recorder followed. In 1993 he founded the band Thumb together with Axel Hilgenstöhler (guitar), which was stylistically classed as Progressive Hardcore / Crossover. In 1995 EMI signed the band. The release of their debut album Thumb (1995) was followed by tours of Europe and the USA and two other albums ( Exposure (1997) and 3  (2001)). At the same time, Wilmking began to work on his first own productions with samplers and computers.

In 1999 Wilmking played for H-Blockx for the first time . He accompanied the band for several months in the USA and then remained a permanent guest drummer for two years. In 2003 he finally joined the band and has released four albums with the H-Blockx to date, on which he also appeared as a songwriter and producer (e.g. Countdown to Insanity , Cliché and others). He now began to work with other artists in the studio, after his first production and mixing activities for the Donots (Gun Records / Sony Music) he produced hip-hop beats for u. a. Bushido (Ersguterjunge / Sony Music), Olli Banjo (real music) and Chakuza (at the time: Ersguterjunge / Sony Music). A close collaboration with Andreas Herbig developed during the production of the H-Blockx album Open Letter To A Friend (X-Cell Records / Universal Music) in 2007.

In the following years, Wilmking refined his production style, which can be found in hip-hop and indie and finally found expression in 2010 in the album production Timid Tiger & The Electric Island for Timid Tiger (Columbia / Sony Music). In 2009 he joined Timid Tiger as a drummer and permanent member of the band. In 2011 he worked with the rapper Casper. Wilmking produced the album XOXO (Four Music / Sony), which entered the German album charts from 0 to 1 and was awarded the 1-Live-Krone as best album and the Echo in the category Best Urban Album nationally . The album was awarded a platinum record in autumn 2013. In spring 2012 the Timid Tiger album The Streets Are Black (Papercup Records / Indigo) , which he also produced and mixed, was released. At the beginning of 2013, Wilmking and DJ Stickle finished the production of the album Magnolia by Chakuza (Four Music), which was released in March 2013, and was also involved in the EP This one song , which was released in summer . Chakuza was nominated for the Echo in 2014 in the Hip-Hop / Urban International category . Together with Ben Bazzazian he produced the first single You Remember of the gentleman album (Universal) released in spring 2013 . On May 6, 2013, Thunderbird Gerard released the EP TROUBLE, which was produced by DJ Stickle, Wilmking and Thunderbird Gerard in the Berliner Krabbe and mixed by DJ Stickle and Wilmking. For the German movie König von Deutschland , Wilmking contributed two songs for the fictional band in the film Populism . On September 27, 2013 the long-awaited new Casper album Hinterland (Four Music) was released, which conquered the top of the LP charts immediately after its release. Wilmking co-produced two songs for this and co-wrote one. At the beginning of 2015, Wilmking completed the production and mixing of the debut album August by artist Nisse (Four Music). The release was in September 2015. Wilmking has been playing as a drummer with Ole Ortmann and Jan-Hendrik Meyer in the band And The Hurley Sea since 2014 . An album was recorded in the summer of 2015, which was originally supposed to be released in 2016. At the beginning of 2016 he took over the musical direction for the live show of the rapper SSIO , in which he has also played drums since then. In addition, Wilmking toured several concerts with Nisse in 2016 . Together with Nisse he produced and mixed the EP Wie ein Mann, which was released on Four Music in February 2017. Steddy also took over the production, mixing and mastering of the Nisse album "Ciao", which was released in October 2018 .

As a studio and live drummer, Wilmking already played a. A. for Udo Lindenberg , Donots, Pohlmann , Nisse , SSIO , Casper , Olli Banjo, Bushido , Mas Ruido, Alternative Allstars, Chakuza, Terry Lynn and Bay C. Wilmking currently lives in Berlin and works there in his studio "Lolliland".

Wilmking is now the owner of his own publishing house, Luchs Music.

Together with Keshav Purushotham, he founded the Papercup Records label in 2016 , on which Keshavara's first release, the debut album of the same name, was released in September of the same year. Wilmking was executive producer and mixed the album. Other artists on the label are: Ray Novacane, Ramesh Shotham, Timid Tiger, Marvin Horsch, Gianni Brezzo, And The Hurley Sea, ACUA, Caveman Bless, Roland Kaiser Wilhelm, Limits OF My Mental Constitution.

The sub-label A Cup Of Good Hope was founded in 2019 . Publish on it u. a. Artists like Mr Mantega , Moonspatz , Gimme A Break and Steddy under his pseudonym Yang Nips instrumental beats .
