Chuckamuck is a 4-piece garage rock band from Berlin .

history

Chuckamuck was originally founded around 2006/07 when the two classmates Oskar Haßler aka “Oska Wald” and “Jiles” (bourgeois Julius) were already making music together. Half a year later, Lorenz Szukal aka "Lorenz O'Tool" joined us, who attended the same school. Jules played bass until 2013. The band originally called themselves "Qat".

The band gave itself its current name based on the dice game Chuck a Luck and the singer Chuck Berry . In 2009 they were discovered and signed by the Berlin label Staatsakt . In the same year they released their first singles. In 2011 the band released their debut album. In 2013 the Berlin DJ Jan Junker aka "Mohair Sam" replaced the bassist Jules.

style

Many songs are sung by the front man Oska. His rough voice stands out particularly characteristic, as it often appears cuddly or almost incomprehensible and thus merges well with the rough sound of the instruments. While the first album still has a balanced number of German and English-language songs, the group sings exclusively in German on other releases.

The band is often referred to as the German equivalent of the Black Lips . But their music also shows many other influences. The namesake Chuck Berry, the Television Personalities and various representatives of Lo-Fi Punk should also be mentioned.

Oska described the self-description of her music as “children's country ” in 2014 on Alex TV as a big mistake.
