Chuck a Luck (German: "Glückssurf", also Chuck Luck , Crown and Anchor or Grand Hazard ) is a simple dice - game of chance with three dice . Chuck a Luck is - in contrast to Hazard, played with three instead of just two dice - also called Grand Hazard .

The players place their bets on a tableau with the numbers one to six, then the banker throws three dice.

If a die shows the number stipulated, the player simply wins; if two dice show the number wagered, the player wins double the bet; if all three dice show the number wagered, the player wins three times the bet; If none of the dice shows the number wagered, the bet is lost. The bank advantage in this game is 7.9%.

This bet can also be found in the Sic Bo casino game . Some casinos pay a 12: 1 win in the event that the number wagered appears on all three dice; the bank advantage is reduced to 3.7%.

The addition of another betting option ( Field ) resulted in the Mini Dice casino game , which is played primarily in Australia and at ship casinos.

Chuck-a-luck is played not only with eyes cubes, but also with specially designed cubes and enjoyed as a sailor game under the name Crown and Anchor (dt. Crown and Anchor ) very popular. The dice used here show the four colors of spades , hearts , diamonds and clubs as well as a crown and an anchor . In France and Belgium , the crown is replaced by a sun , and so the game is known there as Ancre, Pique et Soleil and Flemish Anker en Zon .

Chuck a Luck is a very disadvantageous game for the player. It is assumed that British sailors brought the game to China in order to "take out" Chinese players as quickly as possible. In China, cubes with the symbols fish , shrimp , crab , flower , butterfly and the image of a lady are used - instead of the last three symbols you sometimes find the characters rooster , pumpkin and coin  - this gave the game the name Fish, prawn, crab (German fish, shrimp, crab ) or Chinese Hoo Hey How . In Vietnam and Thailand this game is known as Bau cua ca cop .

Differences to Mini Dice and Sic Bo

The casino games Sic Bo and Mini Dice , which emerged from Chuck a Luck , differ from the original game through the addition of further betting options and better odds, and moreover, in the casinos, eye dice are always used instead of dice with special symbols such as crown and anchor etc.
