Hilliard is a city in Nassau County in the US state of Florida with 3,086 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Hilliard is about 45 km west of Fernandina Beach and about 40 km northwest of Jacksonville . The city is the last place before the Georgia border in the north, just under 10 km away .
history
The railway age in Hilliard began in 1881, when the East Florida Railway , a railway line from Waycross ( Georgia ) to Jacksonville was opened in the 1884 Savannah, Florida & Western Railway opened. Today goods traffic via Hilliard is operated by CSX and passenger traffic by Amtrak (without stopping).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 3086 inhabitants were distributed over 1255 households. The population density was 217.3 inh / km². 89.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 8.7% as African-Americans , 0.5% as Indians and 0.4% as Asian Americans . 0.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.1% to several ethnic groups. 1.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 40.2% of all households and people aged 65 or over in 23.0% of all households. 69.5% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.65 people and the average family size was 3.15 people.
31.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 18.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 47.2% of the population were male and 52.8% were female.
The median annual income was $ 45,694, with 19.0% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 98.77% of the population and 1.23% spoke Spanish .
