Callaway is a city in Bay County in the US state of Florida with 14,405 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Callaway is adjacent to the cities of Parker and Springfield . The city is located about 5 km east of Panama City and about 140 km west of Tallahassee on the East Bay, a lagoon on the Gulf of Mexico .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 14,405 inhabitants were distributed over 6,590 households. The population density was 979.9 inh / km². 71.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 18.2% as African American , 0.7% as Indians and 4.1% as Asian Americans . 1.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 4.5% to several ethnic groups. 5.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 34.4% of all households and persons aged at least 65 years in 23.2% of all households. 68.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 2.96.

25.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 18.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 49.7% of the population were male and 50.3% were female.

The median annual income was $ 50,598, with 10.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.97% of the population, 2.09% spoke Spanish and 3.94% had another mother tongue.

Callaway is crossed by US Highway 98 ( SR 30A ) and Florida State Road 22 . The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is located about 40 km northwest of the city.
