The Hamilton County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Jasper .
history
Hamilton County was formed in 1827 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named after Alexander Hamilton , the first US Secretary of State for the Treasury.
geography
The county has an area of 1,345 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Columbia County , Suwannee County, and Madison County .

As of the 2010 census , Hamilton County had 14,799 people in 5,743 households. The population density was 11.1 people per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 59.8% white, 34.5% African American , 0.6% Native American and 0.5% Asian Americans . 2.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.7% of various ethnic groups. 8.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010, children under the age of 18 lived in 32.0% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 30.9% of all households. 69.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.05.
22.7% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 30.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 19.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 38 years. 58.9% of the population were male and 41.1% were female.
The median income for a household in the 36,875 USD , while 22.6% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the first language of 91.80% of the population, 6.89% spoke Spanish and 1.31% had another mother tongue.
