Century is a city in Escambia County in the US state Florida with 1698 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Century is right on the border with Alabama , on the north side of which is the city of Flomaton . Century is about 60 km north of Pensacola .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 1698 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 765 households. The population density was 199.8 inh / km². 39.7% of the population identified themselves as whites, 56.1% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 0.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.1% to several ethnic groups. 1.1% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 31.4% of all households lived in 34.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 64.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.20.

29.4% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 21.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 23.7% were 60 years or older. The mean age was 39 years. 44.3% of the population were male and 55.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 21,719, with 40.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 98.71% of the population, 1.03% spoke Spanish and 0.26% spoke Tagalog .

On September 28, 1989, the Alger-Sullivan Lumber Company Residential Historic District was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .
