Sorrento is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County in the US state of Florida with 861 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Sorrento is about 15 km east of Tavares and about 30 km north of Orlando . The CDP is crossed by 46 Florida State Road .

history

The place was first opened by railroad in 1887 by the Sanford and Lake Eustis Railroad . The line from Sanford to Tavares was closed in the 1980s between Sanford and Sorrento. Today the Florida Central Railroad operates between Sorrento and Tavares, where there is a connection to the other network.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 861 inhabitants were distributed over 362 households. The population density was 253.2 inh / km². 76.4% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.4% as African American , 11.8% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 6.2% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.9% to several ethnic groups. 30.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 39.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 24.3% of all households. 71.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.12 people and the average family size was 3.43 people.

30.2% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 28.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 14.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 34 years. 51.8% of the population were male and 48.2% were female.

The average annual income was $ 43,625, with no one living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100% of the population.
