Howey-in-the-Hills is a city in Lake County in the US state of Florida with 1098 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Howey-in-the-Hills is on the south bank of Lake Harris . The city is located about 10 km south of Tavares and about 50 km northwest of Orlando .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 1098 inhabitants were distributed over 653 households. The population density was 238.7 inh / km². 96.3% of the population identified themselves as white, 1.3% as African American and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 0.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 5.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 36.7% of all households lived in 20.7% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 69.5% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.28 people and the average family size was 2.68 people.

19.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 17.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 32.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 49 years. 49.2% of the population were male and 50.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 65,278, with 10.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 95.21% of the population and 4.79% spoke Spanish .
