Eustis is a city in Lake County in the US state of Florida with 18,558 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Eustis is located on the east bank of Lake Eustis and is directly adjacent to the towns of Tavares and Mount Dora . Other lakes in the urban area are West Crooked Lake and East Crooked Lake . The city is located around 35 km northwest of Orlando .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 18,558 inhabitants were distributed over 8,871 households. The population density was 859.2 inh / km². 74.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 17.4% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 1.2% as Asian Americans . 3.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.4% to several ethnic groups. 11.9% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 30.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 34.8% of all households. 65.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.43 people and the average family size was 2.98 people.

25.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 26.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 47.1% of the population were male and 52.9% were female.

The median annual income was $ 45,170, with 14.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.50% of the population, 6.44% spoke Spanish and 1.06% had another mother tongue.

The city is crossed by US Highway 441 ( SR 500 ) and Florida State Roads 19 and 44 . The nearest airport is Orlando Sanford International Airport (50 km east). The Florida Central Railroad operates freight traffic from here to Umatilla , via Tavares to Sorrento and to Orlando and Winter Garden .

The crime rate in 2010 was 228 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There was one murder, five rapes, twelve robberies, 23 assaults, 138 break-ins, 476 thefts, 28 car thefts and two arson attacks.
