Umatilla is a city in Lake County in the US state of Florida with 3456 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Umatilla is about 15 km north of Tavares and about 50 km north of Orlando .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 3,456 inhabitants were distributed among 1,708 households. The population density was 523.6 inh / km². 91.5% of the population identified themselves as whites, 3.2% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 3.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.1% to several ethnic groups. 10.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 25.7% of all households and people aged 65 and over in 46.5% of all households. 61.0% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.28 people and the average family size was 2.89 people.

23.1% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 17.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 23.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 35.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 49 years. 47.1% of the population were male and 52.9% were female.

The median annual income was $ 37,816, with 17.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 97.13% of the population and 2.87% spoke Spanish .

On January 27, 2000, the First United Methodist Church of Umatilla was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .

Umatilla is crossed by Florida State Road 19 . The nearest airport is Orlando Sanford International Airport (approximately 55 km southeast). The Florida Central Railroad operates freight traffic from here via Tavares to Sorrento and to Orlando and Winter Garden .
