The Lafayette County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Mayo . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

history

Lafayette County was formed on December 23, 1856. It was named after the French Marquis de Lafayette , who had already fought under George Washington in the War of Independence .

The county has an area of ​​1419 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Suwannee County , Gilchrist County , Dixie County , Taylor County, and Madison County .
