The Saipan International Airport (also Airport Francisco C. Ada is called), the international airport of the Northern Mariana Islands .
It is located in the south of the island of Saipan in I Fadang and is served by various airlines with international destinations.

history

The original airfield of the Japanese was expanded after the island was taken by the Americans in 1944 and equipped with two sufficiently long runways for the B-29 bombers of the Twentieth Air Force . From here the strategic air strikes against the main island of Japan began . The airport on the neighboring island of Tinian , only 15 km away as the crow flies, has a similar history and therefore has the same length of runway. In 1975 the airport was modernized in order to be able to handle large-capacity aircraft.

Airlines

United Airlines , Jeju Airlines , T'way Airlines and Asiana Airlines fly to Saipan, among others . Star Marianas Air flies several times a day to the national destinations Rota , Guam and Tinian .
