The Oshkosh M-ATV ( M RAP - A ll T errain V ehicle ), partly with the spelling MATV , is a military off-road vehicle made by the American vehicle manufacturer Oshkosh that can be transported by air . It partially replaces the Humvee .

delivery

In October 2009, the first M-ATVs entered service with the US Army .

Oshkosh delivered a total of 8,722 M-ATVs to the US Army, of which (as of 2015), after the withdrawal from Iraq and the almost complete withdrawal from Afghanistan, 5,651 (including 250 for SOCOM), i.e. around 65 percent, are retained.

Mission history

The vehicles were initially mainly used in Afghanistan and in the Iraq war as a replacement for the Humvee, as its armor no longer adequately protected the crew.

Technical specifications

It is fully armored against mines, small arms and fragments from artillery shells. Due to its strong armor, the Oshkosh M-ATV weighs over 11 t. The manufacturer does not provide any information on fuel consumption. Allegedly, the car should consume 20 percent less than comparable vehicles. The range of the M-ATV is over 500 kilometers.
