Air loadability describes the property of military , but also civilian equipment, that can be transported by helicopter as an external load or dropped or dropped from fixed-wing aircraft (e.g. C-130 Hercules , C-160 Transall ).

This is made possible by the particularly small size and above all the low weight of the respective device: mostly vehicles, artillery pieces or containers. In the Bundeswehr , for example, the weapon carrier Wiesel can be air- packaged on a helicopter.

The air load capacity is technically limited by the maximum external load of the helicopter or the minimum and maximum depositing / dropping mass for fixed-wing aircraft. In addition, risks when flying over enemy territory (shelling), wind, weather, distance to the area of operation and obstacles limit the possibility of bringing an air-transportable load to the place of operation.
