This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all general aviation accidents. However, it should contain all accidents about which there are separate articles in Wikipedia. In addition, only those accidents should be recorded that meet either the subject-specific or the general relevance criteria (e.g. "long-term of importance" , relevant aircraft operator or with the participation of a relevant person ).

- June 29 - Lake Erie , Ohio , USA . A Grumman G-73 Mallard from General Tire & Rubber Co. landed hard water; one of the three crew members was killed.
- July 11th - Montreal , Quebec , Canada . A Lockheed Lodestar 18-08A the company Eaton's had at Montreal-Trudeau emergency landing and was destroyed by fire. Both crew members survived.
- August 20 - near Yakutsk , Soviet Union . A new Antonov An-2 of the GUSMP crashed into the Lena River while taking off . One of the four inmates was killed.
- September 18 - Krasnoyarsk , Soviet Union . A new Antonov An-2 of the GUSMP was irreparably damaged on launch; both inmates survived.
- October 7th - near Lafayette , Indiana , USA. A Lockheed Lodestar 18-56-23 the National Homes Corporation crashed in bad weather in a soybean field and caught fire. The machine made the return flight from a hunting trip and had loaded the hunted booty. The only crew member and three of the six passengers died.
1958
- March 22 - Grants , New Mexico , USA. A Lockheed Model 18 owned by film producer Michael Todd crashed after an engine failure. Next to Todd, the screenwriter Art Cohn and the two pilots died.
1959
- (A) February 3 - Iowa , USA. Due to bad weather conditions and human error, a Beechcraft Bonanza crashedinto a grain fieldabout 5 miles north of Clear Lake . The pilot Roger Peterson, who was not entitled to instrument flight, and the three rock 'n' roll legends Buddy Holly , Ritchie Valens and Jiles Perry Richardson were killed. The accident went down in history as " The Day the Music Died ".
1966
- (A) July 24th - Glarus Alps , Switzerland. In the plane crash on Biferten , all three occupants of a Piper PA-18 died in high alpine terrain.
1970
- December 18 - Texel (Netherlands). In a HFB 320 Hansa jet of General Air (indicator D-CIRO ) fell on a ferry flight from Hamburg to Köln / Bonn from the electrical system. In order to get into visual flight weather conditions , the pilots flew towards the North Sea. In the absence of an airfield visible between the clouds, an emergency landing with retracted landing gear was carried out on the beach on the Dutch island of Texel. Both pilots survived. The already damaged machine was finally demolished during the rescue.
1972
- June 29th - Blackpool Airport (England). An Inter City Flug HFB 320 Hansa Jet ( aircraft registration D-CASY ) had an accident while attempting to take off. The elevator lock had not been released before take-off, which prevented the machine from taking off. The start was aborted at very high speed. The plane rolled over the end of the runway and a railroad line and came to a halt at a holiday camp. Seven of the eight inmates were killed.
- October 6 - Pacific , Chile. A twin-engine Aero Commander 680 from the Chilean Línea Aérea Taxpa (CC-CEO) disappeared on the 700-kilometer flight from Valparaíso to Robinson Crusoe Island . Eight people have been missing since the plane went missing. No trace of the machine was found.
1973
- On December 12, 1973 a Dassault Falcon 20 of Fred collided . Olsen's Flyselskap ( aircraft registration LN-FOE ) with a large flock of birds shortly after taking off from runway 28 at Norwich Airport . Both engines failed; Despite the twilight, the pilots managed to make an emergency landing in a nearby field. All three crew members were injured, while none of the six passengers suffered injuries. The aircraft was totaled.
1980
- (A) April 3 - During a test flight from Mojave Air & Space Port , a Canadair CL-600-1A11 Challenger 600 from Canadair (C-GCGR-X) came to the Deep Stall . The anti-spin parachute did not open properly. The three-man crew then jumped out of the machine, but the pilot's parachute failed, which then fell to the ground unchecked and died. The accident investigation revealed that four independent component failures had occurred on the machine at the same time, three of which had already occurred before. It was the first incident involving this type of aircraft with fatalities (see also the accident involving a Canadair CL-600 from Canadair near Mojave ) .
1987
- (A) August 11th - While approaching Munich-Riem Airport , a Piper PA 31T Cheyenne II from a flight schoolcrashedon an intersection. In addition to the two occupants of the aircraft, seven other people died on the ground: a cyclist and several occupants of a bus and guests of a McDonald’s fast-paced restaurant. A gas station right across from McDonald's was only just missed (see also plane crash in Trudering ) .
1989
- (A) February 23 - An Aero Commander 690D "Jetprop900" of the Rheintalflug (OE-FCS) crashed near Rorschach for an unexplained cause during the approach to the Altenrhein airfield in Lake Constance. All eleven people on board died, including the then Austrian Federal Minister for Social Affairs Alfred Dallinger (see also Rheintalflug flight 102 ) .
1990
- November 21 - A Beechcraft King Air 200 (D-IGSW) collided with the Kellerjoch mountain ( Tyrol ) while approaching Innsbruck Airport , coming from Trieste Airport . Both crew members and the German steel industrialist Willy Korf were killed.
1993
- April 2nd - Wieden (Black Forest) . A medical delegation from the Donauspital in Vienna was in a single-engine Austrian Socata TBM 700 . All six inmates died in the crash at the Wiedener Eck.
- June 7th - Cologne , Germany. Shortly after taking off from Cologne / Bonn airport for a training flight crashed Learjet 35 A D-COCO by Aero-Dienst from. All four inmates died, including the founder of the toy company Dickie, Wolfgang Sauerborn.
1994
- (A) January 24th - While approaching Altenrhein Airport , a Cessna 425 (registration D-IEFW ) crashed into Lake Constance. All five occupants were killed (see also the crash of a Cessna 425 in Lake Constance ) .
1996
- (A) February 24th - Caribbean Sea , near Cuba . Aircraft launching the "Brothers to the Rescue" : Two machines of the Cuban exile group 'Brothers to the Rescue " were shot down. Four people died.
- August 8 - Offenburg , Germany. The Dassault Falcon 10 of the Hubert Burda Media collided while landing at the airfield Offenburg with a cloud-covered mountain. Four people were killed.
2001
- August 25 - Bahamas . A Cessna 402B on the flight from the Bahamas to Miami crashed a few hundred meters behind the runway immediately after take-off at around 6.45 p.m. local time . As it turned out later, the aircraft was overloaded by approx. 400 kg. An autopsy also revealed that the pilot had been under the influence of alcohol and cocaine . One of the passengers was singer and actress Aaliyah .
2002
- Dec. 3 - A Learjet 36A of the Phoenix Air (N546PA) collided at the start with a moose and shot at the start of demolition from Astoria Regional Airport ( Oregon , USA), the end of the runway . All occupants, two crew members and two passengers, survived and the aircraft was destroyed.
2003
- January 20 - Lower Saxony , Germany. The rescue helicopter Christoph 19 , a Bölkow Bo 105 , crashed into the Elbe Lateral Canal near Bienenbüttel after it had brushed against a bridge while flying under it. The ambulance was killed in the crash.
- January 24th - Busia , Kenya . A chartered by the Kenyan government business aircraft of type Grumman G-159 Gulfstream I won after the start not enough altitude and collided with obstacles. Three people were killed, including the Kenyan Minister of Labor. The investigations revealed major irregularities in the operation of the machine (see also the flight accident of a Grumman Gulfstream I in Busia ) .
2004
- February 26 - Bosnia and Herzegovina . A Beechcraft King Air B200 crashed on the flight from Skopje to Mostar , about 40 km south of Mostar. All nine people on board, including the Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski , were killed.
2005
- August 10 - Estonia . A Sikorsky S-76 C + helicopter of the Finnish company Copterline crashed three minutes after take-off in the Estonian capital Tallinn on the way to Helsinki near the island of Naissaar in the Baltic Sea and sank 60 m deep. All twelve passengers and the two crew members were killed.
- September 5th - Ötztal , Tyrol , Austria . A helicopter from the Austrian company Knaus Helicopter GmbH lost a concrete bucket weighing around 750 kg. This fell on a cable car . One gondola crashed and occupants of two other gondolas were thrown out by the vibrations of the rope. 9 people, including 6 children or young people, died. 7 people were injured, 4 of them seriously.
- September 28 - Baden-Württemberg , Germany. A rescue helicopter of the type MBB / Kawasaki BK 117 of the German Air Rescue Service crashed in the late morning in impassable terrain near Weilheim . All four occupants: pilot, doctor, paramedic and the patient to be transported were killed. The helicopter with the callsign " Christoph 51 " was on a transfer flight from Gerlingen to Munich .
2006
- July 2nd - Hamburg , Germany. A single-engine seaplane of the type De Havilland Canada DHC-2 "Beaver" had an accident after an engine failure and the attempted emergency landing on a railway site in the port of Hamburg . Of the 6 occupants, the pilot and 4 passengers die. One passenger survived seriously injured.
2007
- January 7th - Sandy Bay Airport, Canada . A Beechcraft King Air A100 of the Trans West Air came shortly before landing out of control and crashed on the runway from 05 to airport Sandy Bay. One of the two crew members and two passengers was killed.
- January 9 - Guadalajara , Mexico . A Learjet 24F of Ameristar Jet Charter crashes near the airport Guadalajara from. All two crew members on board die.
- July 5th - Sinaloa , Mexico. In the crash landing of a North American T-39 Sabreliner freighter from the Mexican company Jett Paqueteria SA , nine people were killed, six of them on the ground. Four others were injured when the plane crashed onto a busy road after its unsuccessful start at Culiacan airport in Sinaloa state.
2008
- (A) November 4th - Mexico City , Mexico. A Learjet 45 got caught in a wake vortex and crashed over the Lomas de Chapultepec district of Mexico City. The three crew members, all five passengers and six people on the ground were killed and more than 40 were injured. The Mexican Interior Minister Juan Camilo Mouriño was among the dead( see Learjet 45 crash in Mexico City in 2008 ).
2009
- On February 12, 2009, a Falcon 10/100 (VP-BAF) in Switzerland detected an incorrectly aligned landing at Samedan airfield while drifting away from the runway with the left wing parallel to the runway and 5 meters outside the runway Snow wall at a height of around 1.1 meters and, after the resulting rotation around the yaw axis, shortly afterwards hit the right side of the fuselage into the four meter high snow wall that was perpendicular to the runway next to the main taxiway to the parking areas. Both pilots died in the broken front section, the passenger survived injured. The Federal Office for Civil Aviation then ordered the airfield to be closed until the snow walls had been removed and commissioned a new snow removal concept. According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau , the main causes of the accident were errors by the pilots that had led to a landing that had started with the touchdown of the right wing on the left half of the runway. The approach took place in diffuse light and light snowfall after a waiting period due to ongoing snow removal work. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO , the permitted height of snow along the runway is 0.6 meters at a distance of 5 meters from the runway, ideally after the snow has been cleared.
2011
- (A) September 16 - Nevada , USA. Reno Air Race aircraft accident 2011 : During the Reno Air Race in Reno , a North American P-51 got out of control and hit a grandstand. The pilot and nine spectators were killed and 69 people were injured, some seriously.
- November 11th - An A-109E helicopter launched in Locarno-Magadino crashed in Italy southwest of Ancona , killing all 3 occupants. The machine, registered in Switzerland with the registration HB-ZJN, was controlled by the owner himself.
2012
- June 11 - Urals , Russia. An AN-2 , assigned to search for forest fires, took off on an unauthorized flight near Serov and disappeared. The wreck of the machine and 13 bodies were found in May 2013 in the Urals, in difficult-to-access terrain, 8 kilometers from the runway.
- (A) December 8 - Hesse , Germany. In the aircraft collision near Wölfersheim, a Robin DR 400 and a Piper PA-32R collidedin the air and crashed near Wölfersheim in the Wetterau district of Hesse. One of the two aircraft had started from Koblenz in the direction of Reichelsheim , the other aircraft was on the way from Stadtlohn to Aschaffenburg . Eight people, including four children and a Lufthansa pilot, were killed in the accident.
- December 9 - Nuevo León , Mexico. When a Learjet 25 crashed about 120 km south of Monterrey , all seven inmates died, including the Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera . The plane took off from the capital of the Mexican state of Nuevo León in the direction of Toluca and was reported missing after just a few minutes.
2013
- Feb. 26 - During the landing maneuver in Luxor ( Egypt ) became a hot air balloon with 20 passengers on board on fire and crashed. 19 passengers were killed. In terms of the number of deaths, the event was the largest known balloon accident in decades.
- (A) March 21 - Air accident at the Berlin Olympic Stadium : In the course of a large-scale exercise by the Federal Police, a helicopter collided with a stationary helicopter. Eight people were injured, including four seriously. One of the pilots died.
- July 7 - A Rediske Air DHC-3 Otter crashed near Soldotna , Alaska (USA). 10 people were killed.
- November 29 - A Eurocopter EC 135T2 + police helicopter operated by Bond Helicopters ( aircraft registration G-SPAO ) crashed in the dark on the Clutha Vault pub on the banks of the Clyde River in eastern Glasgow, killing 10 people were. The scene of the accident is 5.3 kilometers east-southeast of the Glasgow City Heliport, the base of the helicopter. Both engines failed in quick succession. Although 76 kg of fuel were still available in the main tank, the very experienced pilot had neither switched on the pumps provided for this purpose nor followed the procedure of landing within 10 minutes of a warning lamp lighting up. As a result, both engines failed due to a lack of fuel. An emergency landing by autorotation was also not initiated. In the crash, the pilot and the two police officers on board were killed, as were seven visitors to the pub.
2014
- (A) June 23 - North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany. Crash of a Learjet 35 in the Sauerland : During an interception exercise, a fighter jet of the type Eurofighter and a Learjet 35 from the Society for Flight Target Representation collided; the latter crashed. Both of his inmates were killed.
- October 10 - Tuva , Russia. Crash of a Tuvan Airlines Mi-8 helicopter, killing 14. The crash site was only found on August 7, 2015. An area of 70,000 square kilometers (almost the size of Austria) was searched in 168 flights in autumn 2014 without success.
- October 20 - Moscow , Russia. When taking off at Moscow- Vnukowo Airport, a French Dassault Falcon 50EX collided with a snow plow in poor visibility. The three crew members and the passenger Christophe de Margerie , CEO of Total SA , were killed in the accident. The possibly intoxicated snow plow driver remained uninjured (see also the flight accident of the total manager Christophe de Margerie ) .
2015
- January 18 - Baden-Württemberg, Germany. In Rechberghausen , a Piper PA-24 Comanche crashed into a residential area. The well-known pilot Wolfgang Dallach and his companion died. Both had passed out during the flight.
- March 4th - Virginia , USA. A four-seater Mooney M20 F , built in 1975, crashed into the Norfolk Botanical Gardens with the pilot and two other passengers, including drummer Ted Reinhardt , on the flight from Key West to Buffalo . All occupants of the small plane died in the crash.
- (A) March 9 - Argentina . Helicopter collision at Villa Castelli : When two Eurocopter helicopters collidedwhile filming the reality show Dropped in the remote Argentine province of La Rioja , all ten people on board were killed. Among the victims were prominent French athletes Florence Arthaud , Camille Muffat and Alexis Vastine .
- June 2 - An Écureuil type helicopter with registration number 9N-AJP owned by Mountain Helicopters Pvt Ltd crashed in the Sindhupalchok district of Nepal. The pilot and three Médecins Sans Frontières employees, including a Dutch employee, were killed. According to eyewitnesses, the helicopter had collided with power lines.
- August 15 - Sea of Okhotsk , Russia. A Mil Mi-8 helicopter crashed into Ongachan Bay during a flight from the village of Polina Osipenko in the Khabarovsk region . 11 out of 16 inmates were rescued.
2016
- March 8 - Collision of two single-engine small aircraft, a Cessna 152 with a prototype from Petrel (Argentina) near the General Rodriguez flight club, 50 km west of Buenos Aires, Argentina. 3 dead, 1 slightly injured.
- July 14 - A Piper PA-32R-301T Turbo Saratoga SP (registration number N710CC) crashed on the flight from Venice to Leipzig in Slovenia near Ajdovščina due to icing. All 4 inmates died, including the Unister boss Thomas Wagner .
- July 30 - A hot air balloon collided with a power line in Texas . All 16 inmates died in the accident.
- September 1 - The pilot of a single-engine propeller airplane (registration D-ELTK) reported engine problems on a charter sightseeing flight 35 minutes after take-off from the Leutkirch-Unterzeil airfield (Allgäu). The Robin DR 400 machine crashed in the Nannenbach district in an open field. The German pilot and the passenger couple from Vorarlberg, all around 30 years old, died.
- November 19 - In foggy weather, an Agusta A109 helicopter launched in Lugano-Agno crashed north of Varese near Alpe Tedesco. One passenger was killed. The pilot and one other passenger survived the flight, which was advised against before take-off.
2017
- On 5 April fell Wedemark district Elze an ultralight aircraft of the type MD3 Rider MK2 ( air vehicle registration D-MLPT ab) after it with a high-voltage line had collided, which in Bissendorf short the power went out . After the aircraft burned out, both occupants were found dead.
- April 17th - A Piper PA-31T (HB-LTI) registered in Switzerland crashed near Lisbon and killed the 4 occupants as well as a truck driver when the plane crashed onto his trailer, which was being unloaded at a supermarket. The plane had taken off from Cascais for Marseille two minutes earlier .
- August 4 - As part of the aviation youth camp organized by the Aero Club of Switzerland , a Piper PA-28-181 Archer II (HB-PER) from the Upper Engadin powered flight group, launched in Samedan , fell around 300 meters north of Diavolezza . Two of the three young passengers and the pilot were killed in the accident, one passenger was recovered seriously injured. An unsuitable and high-risk flight tactic was found to be the cause of the accident, whereby leaving control of the controls to a person who was not familiar with the flight contributed directly to the accident. The pilot had a private pilot license (PPL (A)), but was not qualified as a flight instructor . In addition, the organizers made a systemic contribution to the accident through their lack of safety awareness.
- August 8 - A Piper Malibu (HB-PPH) small aircraft crashed into Lake Constance near the island of Mainau. The aircraft had taken off with a 74-year-old pilot and his 75-year-old partner in Zurich and was on the way to Hamburg when contact with air traffic control broke off.
- August 20 - On a flight from Sion to Biel-Kappelen , a Piper Warrior II with the Swiss registration HB-PTL crashed north of Sion on the Sanetsch Pass at an altitude of around 2100 meters. Three people died in the crash.
2018
- January 23rd - While approaching the Speyer airfield, a Piper PA-28 from Basel collided with a rescue helicopter of the DRF Luftrettung , which was on a training flight, near the Erlichsee near Oberhausen-Rheinhausen . The pilot, his student pilot and the two DRF pilots were killed when the two machines crashed.
- March 11 - A Eurocopter AS 350 helicopter chartered for private photo shoots lost altitude dramatically in the airspace over New York City , landed on the East River between the districts of Manhattan and Queens , toppled sideways with its rotor turning and sank. The pilot of the helicopter was able to free himself, the other five people on board died.
- March 11 - A Bombardier Challenger 604 owned by the Istanbul Basaran Holding Company (TC-TRB) crashes in the Iranian region of Bakhtiari in the province of Shahar Mahall around 400 kilometers south of Tehran. Due to differences in the speed indicators, the master flew the machine into a stall , although the first officer asked him at least three times to use the emergency procedure prescribed for this case. All 11 people on board died, including Mina Basaran, the daughter of company boss Hüseyin Basaran. She had celebrated her bachelorette party in the United Arab Emirates with her friends.
- October 27, 2018 - When taking off from the Leicester City stadium in England, the AgustaWestland AW169 helicopter with the registration number G-VSKP began to rotate uncontrollably due to a defect in the area of the tail rotor. The pilot and four passengers, including Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha , died in the crash and the fire that broke out. A rescue attempt by two police officers had to break off because of the fire.
- On November 8, 2018, a Mil Mi-8T of the “Barkol” Airlines crashed in the Tver region , in which the flight engineer was killed. Hoses that were not certified for the aircraft type were found on the helicopter.
- December 15 - A rescue helicopter that had flown a patient to Porto crashed near Couce near Porto in Portugal . All 4 inmates, both pilots, a doctor and a paramedic were killed.
- December 30th - In Ulan-Ude in the Russian republic of Buryatia in southeastern Siberia , an Agusta A119 caught fire after it crashed and four people died.
2019
- February 20 - A Cessna 172 of the Aero Dili ( aircraft registration 4W-AAA ) crash-landed west of Dili due to technical problems . The pilot and the only passenger were unharmed. The machine was damaged beyond repair.
- (A) March 23 - A pilot from South Africa who had appeared at a party at the clubhouse of the Matsieng Flying Club in Botswana on the same day,intentionallyflew in on a Beechcraft B200 King Air (A2-MBM) that eveningthe control tower and clubhouse at the Matsieng Aerodrome. Since the pilot circled the buildings several times before the impact, they could be evacuated beforehand. The pilot remained the only fatality in the incident. It already concerned the second incident of its kind in Botswana, after 20 years earlier another suicide pilot part of the fleet of Air Botswana destroyed had (see also theft and crash of a Beechcraft King Air B200 in March 2019 ) .
- June 22 - A Beechcraft King Air A90 ( N256TA ) crashed on the island of Hawaii in the north of O'ahu from. Eleven people died in the accident.
- June 30 - A Beechcraft King Air B300-350i (N534FF) rolled to the left shortly after take-off from Addison Airport near Dallas , hit a hangar and burned out. All 10 people on board the machine were killed. The hangar building was badly damaged. A Dassault Falcon 900 business jet and a helicopter were parked in the hangar and were also damaged.
- July 14 - A Gippsland GA-8 (SE-MES) aircraft crashed near the city of Umeå in northern Sweden . The plane crashed straight to the ground. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) temporarily banned all flights with this Australian aircraft type on July 19, as a wing or parts of it could have broken off in flight. All nine people died on board, including parachutists.
- August 20 - An Agusta A109 crashed near Poros in Greece . A Greek pilot and his two passengers were killed.
- August 24 - A Mil Mi-2 helicopter used in agriculture crashed in the Krasnodar region of Russia , killing the pilot.
- December 2 - At around 1.30 a.m., a civil defense helicopter crashed near Marseille , France, after heavy rainfall and flooding. All 3 inmates, helpers on the way to a rescue operation, were killed.
2020
- January 26th, noon - Friesach , Carinthia , A. The pilot tried to land a hot air balloon with (previously) little current on a valley meadow in Grafendorf, but finally to cross a 20 kV overhead line (on wooden masts), which failed. The suspension of the balloon touched ladder ropes, the balloon envelope remained hanging over the 3 ropes and the basket slowly slid to the ground. The short-circuit current caused hot metal to be sprayed away, which hit and injured 2 passengers on their clothing and neck and triggered the disconnection of the line. At the next tension field the joint (clamping sleeve) of a conductor opened under the tensile load. At 5 p.m., the repaired Kelag line went back into operation.
