On December 26, 1991, a Boeing 747 cargo plane crashed on China Airlines Flight 358 from Taipei to Anchorage .

About four minutes after take-off from Taipei, the pilots reported problems with engine # 2 at 5,200 feet and the air traffic controller asked the pilots to make a left turn to return to the airport. Just one minute and 45 seconds later, the pilots reported that they could not make a left turn and the air traffic controller gave permission to make a right turn. That was the last radio contact with Flight 358. Shortly afterwards, the Boeing 747 crashed uncontrollably, right wing first, into a hill near Wanli at about 210 meters (700 feet) . All five crew members died.
Crash site
The Kuosheng nuclear power plant is also located in the Wanli district, where the machine went down and which extends over a length of seven kilometers . According to the coordinates of the Aviation Safety Network , the crash site was less than a kilometer from the facility.
Cause of crash
Engine no. 3 broke off the wing due to material fatigue, and engine no. 4 was also torn off. Due to the damage to the right wing, the aircraft could hardly be steered.
