Cameroon Airlines was the national airline of Cameroon based in Douala .

history

The airline was founded on July 26, 1971 and began flight operations on November 1, 1971 with two Boeing 737-200 aircraft on the Douala - Yaoundé route . With two former Boeing 707 of Air France Flight operations began after Rome and Paris . The Boeing 707 were replaced by the Boeing 747-200 in 1982 . The airline was 96.43% owned by the Cameroonian government and 3.57% by Air France.

On September 16, 2005, Cameroon Airlines was blacklisted by the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC). The airline was thus no longer allowed to fly to destinations in France. A few days later, the airline reached an agreement with the French authorities and was allowed to fly to French airports again with rented aircraft.

The government stopped flight operations in March 2008 and confiscated all of the company's offices. Since then, the airline has been without an administration.

The successor is the newly founded airline Camair-Co .

fleet

In September 2005 Cameroon Airlines only operated one Boeing 757-200 . In November 2006, at least two planes with the airline's emblem flew that were also allowed to land in Paris. The entire fleet has been decommissioned since April 2008:

Incidents

  • On August 30th, 1984 broke one on the Douala rolling Boeing 737-200 of Cameroon Airlines (TJ-CBD) , the compressor blade of the left Pratt & Whitney JT8D -Triebwerks. Flying debris broke through the wing and tank, causing the machine to catch fire. During the subsequent evacuation, 114 of the 116 people on board were able to escape from the aircraft, two passengers perished in the fire (see also Cameroon Airlines flight 786 ) .
  • On December 3, 1995, a Cameroon Airlines (TJ-CBE) Boeing 737-200 crashed into a mangrove forest while landing in Douala. 71 of the 76 people on board were killed in the accident. Shortly before the crash, the crew initiated a go-around maneuver and reported problems with the aircraft. It was later determined that the left engine's compressor blade had broken due to material fatigue, which affected the flight path. The crew had initiated the go-around maneuver too late and did not realize that only one engine was available at the time. This led to a loss of speed and a stall, which ultimately led to the crash (see also Cameroon Airlines flight 3701 ) .
