Laar is the smallest district in terms of inhabitants in the city of Herford . On December 31, 2015, 467 people lived there. Laar lies on the southwestern city limits.

Neighboring communities

Laar borders the Herford district Eickum in the north and the Herford district Diebrock and Stedefreund in the east . Bielefeld- Brake is to the south and the Bielefeld districts of Vilsendorf and Jöllenbeck are to the west .

history

Until December 31, 1968, Laar was part of the Herford-Hiddenhausen office in the Herford district . On January 1, 1969, it was incorporated into the then independent city of Herford, which in turn was incorporated into the Herford district.

landscape

The landscape is largely characterized by agriculture and some streams. In addition to some residential areas, there are only individual industrial buildings, high-voltage lines and the substation. The construction of the landfill with the largest cantilevered roof in Germany was stopped at the end of 1995 after it had started in 1994.

The entrepreneur ( Bugatti clothing ) and show jumper Wolfgang Brinkmann runs a riding stable on Vilsendorfer Strasse .

Church of the Resurrection

The Church of the Resurrection

The Protestant Church of the Resurrection on Laarer Strasse was built in 1962. Until 1959, Laar was the parish of the Herford Münster parish . The current municipality includes the Herford districts of Laar and Stedefreund as well as the western part of Eickum (Obereickum) and Diebrock (Hollinde).

The simple single-nave building faces north-south. The door handle on the portal shows the biblical motif Jonah , who was spat out by the whale, which in the New Testament is considered a symbol of the resurrection. The resurrection of Christ is depicted on the large central window in the choir room and the baptism of Jesus by John on the left side of the choir window . The choir window on the right shows the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus . Three more windows give the sacristy the atmosphere. They show the Lord's Supper, the unbelieving Thomas , the Risen One and Peter . The altar table comes from the prayer room of the old chapel from 1875, which previously stood at this point. The crucifix and the pulpit figures in the office are still a reminder of this. The pulpit on the right is made of mosaic marble stones. On the other side is the baptismal font made of polished marble.

Next to the church is the Laar municipal cemetery with elective graves, row graves and row graves.

Roonstein

At the intersection of Lübbecker Strasse - Laarer Strasse / Vilsendorfer Strasse there is a monument by the sculptor Heinrich Wefing for the Prussian general and Minister of War Albrecht von Roon . It was built in 1913 by the Laar-Hollinde Warrior Association. It was implemented once in the 20th century.
