Location of Südlengern in Bünde

Südlengern is a district of Bündes in the Herford district , in the north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia . To the east is the Kirchlengern district of the same name, Südlengern . To distinguish between the two places, the Bünder district Südlengern-Heide is called, the district Kirchlengerns also Südlengern-Dorf . Until 1968 the two parts formed a common, independent municipality in the Herford district. On January 1, 1969, the old community was divided up between Bünde and Kirchlengern as part of the local government reform.

In the north, Südlengern-Heide is bounded by the river Else ( Elseaue ). The Spradow district of Graubünden is on the opposite bank . In the east, Bünde-Südlengern borders on Kirchlengern-Südlengern. To the south is the district of Eilshausen in the municipality of Hiddenhausen . In the southwest, Südlengern borders on Bünde-Bustedt . In the west, Südlengern-Heide borders on Bünde-Mitte . Doberg lies in the south of Südlengern-Heide . In the north of Südlengern-Heide is in the Barrenbruch with 59  m above sea level. NHN the lowest point in the city of Bünde. The Doberg and Elseaue are designated as nature reserves .

history

Südlengern was founded in the 12th century. Until the municipal reorganization in 1969, Südlengern was an independent municipality. Both Südlengern-Dorf and Südlengern-Heide belonged to this community. On January 1, 1969, the municipality was divided between Bünde and Kirchlengern. The formerly important importance of the mills in town, as well as that of the cigar industry with its branches and countless home workers, are expressed as symbols in the municipal coat of arms. Südlengern experienced a clear development of the townscape after the end of the Second World War through the settlement of larger industrial companies and the constant expansion of residential construction as a result of the influx of people who had been displaced from the former German eastern regions. Numerous residential buildings were built in the 1950s and 1960s; the settlement development is still characteristic of the town today.
