Besenkamp is a district in Enger in East Westphalia , Herford district . The town, which was independent until 1968, has 1849 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2005).

history

Heinrich Griese (1934) suspects that Besenkamp arose from the former village of “Benzencampe” and the old Saxon village of “Wedemere” . Besenkamp could have been named after the first settler who bore the name Biso. The village name "Wedemere" consists of the Middle Low German word "Wede" = forest and the Old High German "meri, mere" = standing, shallow water. In 1971 a tympanum from the 10th or 11th century was excavated in the collegiate church in Enger. Besenkamp is mentioned for the first time on an inscription. The inscription reads: “The Belke mill is supposed to have a share in the common market of Päscherheide and Besenkamp. At the time of the Hoier. "

The Ravensberger Urbar of 1556 shows that the Burschaft Bessenkamp is part of the Vogtey Engern in the Sparrenberg office of the Ravensberg County. The Urbar of the county lists 23 families and farms for the Burschaft Bessenkamp. Among them are many names that can still be found today in Besenkamp: "Heinrich Maich, Ott Weelpman, Ludeke Lindeman, Steffen Goedecker, Herman Hillebrand, Johan Godeker, Herman up dem Heimesaet, Herman Piper, Herman Steffen, Johan Ebeler, Johan Kurkamp, Johan up dem Kamp, Heinrich Schroder, Albert Kleieman, Albert Klefmann, Peter Kleiman, Gerke in der Schuyrstede, Johan uf dem Winkel, Gercke in den Ellern, Thewusch uf dem Hagen, Tebbe bei dem Telgenbusch, Thoniß de Wemer and Herbert de Wemer. "

On January 1, 1969 Besenkamp was incorporated into Enger.
