Herringhausen is a district of Herford . In the west, the Herringhausen district of the city of Enger is immediately adjacent . Before 1969, these two parts formed a common municipality in the Herford district. To distinguish it from the Engers district, Herford-Herringhausen is also called Herringhausen Ost .

history

The place is mentioned for the first time as Hetheredingusen in a deed of donation from 1151. Herringhausen appears in the Ravensburger Urbar from 1556 with 23 courtyards. The main axis of the place is the old trade route from Herford to Osnabrück , which is now called Engerstrasse. Herringhausen was an independent municipality until 1968 . In the course of the territorial reform , the place was divided on January 1, 1969 and added to the neighboring cities of Herford and Enger.

Herringhausen Ost became a district of Herford. On December 31, 2015 it had 2,736 inhabitants. Herringhausen is thus significantly larger than the Engers district of the same name.

Evangelical Church Herringhausen

The Protestant church was built in 1958. The parish, which had previously belonged to the Herford Münster parish , became independent on January 1, 1964. The community also includes some parts of Diebrock and Eickum. The simple building is characterized by Dutch clinker. The tower stands to the east of the nave. The clinker brick was also left in the interior. In contrast, the altar, baptismal font, pulpit and window reveals are made of sandstone. The windows are made of antique glass. The gallery on the back wall of the church receives its light through a round window.

The Herringhausen industrial area is one of the largest industrial areas in the city of Herford. This is where the Poggenpohl kitchen furniture works and the office furniture manufacturer Febrü are based.

Engerstraße is the central traffic axis that runs from Herford to Enger through the middle of Herringhausen. Herringhausen is connected to local public transport by the S1 city bus. The buses run every half hour during the week from Eickum / Herringhausen to Herford or from Herford to Herringhausen / Eickum. With this bus line, the train station and the city center can be reached without changing.
