Hücker-Aschen ( ndt. Hücker-Asken ) is a district in the northeast of the East Westphalian city of Spenge in the Herford district , in the Detmold administrative district, in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Hücker-Aschen was an independent municipality in the Spenge office until 1968 and was assigned to the city of Spenge in 1969 as part of the municipal reorganization. The district has a total area of approx. 680 ha, which is mainly used for agriculture as arable and green space.

Part of the area (Klein-Aschen, Gehlenbrink in the direction of Hücker-Moor) is under landscape or nature protection.

location

Hücker-Aschen lies between the Wiehengebirge and the Teutoburg Forest in the heartland of the Ravensberger Land and is characterized by the buildings typical of the Ravensberg hill country. In addition to the scattered buildings and the various individual courtyards, there are compact residential developments in Hücker-Aschen in the area of Gehlenbrink and in Klein-Aschen around the church.

With around 1500 inhabitants, Hücker-Aschen is the fourth largest district of Spenges and is about 80 m above sea level. NN (near the Hücker Moor). He is particularly known for the local recreation area Hücker Moor .

The old Wallholländer windmill in Hücker-Aschen can be visited on request. The adjacent Heimatstube is also used for smaller events.

The river “Warmenau” forms the natural border with Lower Saxony for several kilometers.

history

Aschen was first mentioned in writing as Askan 1153. The Aschen moated castle was once located near the Klein-Aschen district on the Warmenau River . Its existence is first documented with certainty for 1404. The oldest references to a family of ashes date back to the mid-12th century. There are no visible traces of the former castle site today.

The district of Hücker was first mentioned in writing in 1151 as Hucheri .

With the establishment of the first volunteer fire brigade in Spenge in 1885, the so-called "compulsory fire brigade" was formed in Hücker-Aschen. In 1898 the Hücker-Aschen volunteer fire brigade was founded.

Until 1968, Hücker-Aschen was an independent municipality in the Spenge office . On January 1, 1969, Hücker-Aschen merged with the other four municipalities of the office to form the new town of Spenge.

education

The “Open all-day primary school Spenge / Hücker-Aschen”, which is located in the center of the town of Spenge, is responsible for providing basic school care for the first four years of school.

Hücker Moor

The Moorbach is the man-made drainage ditch of the Hücker Moor and flows into the Else after a few kilometers. Although it is a flowing body of water, you can hardly see a current. The low gradient gives it more of the characteristics of a still water, the lack of wood on the banks reinforces these by promoting the strong warming of the water and leading to a low oxygen content. The intensive agricultural use along the brook leads to increased nutrient and erosion input. Three- and nine-spined sticklebacks are therefore the only species of fish found.
