Largest lake in the Herford district , created around 1850 from peat cutting |
The Hücker Moor is a small moor lake in Hücker-Aschen , a district of Spenge ( Herford district ) in the north of North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).
Emergence
The depression was created by a sinkhole as a result of the washing out of a salt deposit underground. As a result of the subsidence, a flat moor developed in the poor area . The body of water was created in the course of the 18th and 19th centuries through the peat bog . In the middle of the 19th century the peat extraction stopped. The depression created by the removal of the peat filled up again through smaller tributaries and springs. The result is today's Moorsee, which is drained from the Moorbach via Werfener Bach into the Else . With an area of around 11 hectares, it forms the largest area of water in the entire Herford district.
leisure
Rowboats or canoes can be borrowed on the lake in the summer season; There are several restaurants on the north bank.
However, the numerous commercial leisure facilities on the lake also result in conflicts of use. The Hücker Moor working group tries to manage this conflict. The south bank, on the other hand, is largely designated as a protection zone and thus natural and unpopulated.
nature
In the past, the area was characterized by a number of rare plant species, such as B.
- Hedgehog hose ( Baldellia ranunculoides ),
- Round-leaved sundew ( Drosera rotundifolia ),
- Bell heather ( Erica tetralix ),
- Fever clover ( Menyanthes trifoliata ),
- Marsh stendellum ( Epipactis palustris ),
- Blood eye ( Potentilla plaustris ) and
- White water lily ( Nymphaea alba ).
Due to the intensive recreational use and heavy eutrophication , however, there are hardly any floristic features left today.
The breeding birds in the area include pond and coot , mute swan , nightingale and reed warbler . In the immediate vicinity comes backed Shrike before.
